Join Bourne Water Dragons
We’re a dragon boating team made up of amazing men and women of all ages, skills, and backgrounds who have experienced a cancer diagnosis but who are now keen to take on new adventures and lead a full and active life beyond cancer.
Join the first ‘all cancer’ dragon boat team in the UK.
Whether you’re a cancer survivor or know someone who is, Bourne Water Dragons are here for you. Over 90% of our members have no experience of dragon boating or any water sports. We aim to provide an inclusive environment for you, with experienced coaches offering fun and approachable training sessions to get you up to speed, and you are more than welcome to bring a friend to your first session!
What experience do you need?
When you join us for a session, the only experience you need to paddle in a dragon boat is an open mind and the goal to have fun! We encourage you to bring a partner or friend to a couple of sessions if you’re feeling a bit nervous on your first day.
Before going in the boat, our helms, or coaches, will go through the necessary briefings and safety precautions with you, including how to hold the paddle and the correct technique to avoid any injuries.
Where do we train?
Our base is at the Sea Cadet Boat House, Iford Lane Playing Fields, Iford Lane, Bournemouth, BH6 5NF.
Paddling sessions are usually held on Sunday mornings from 09:30 - 11:00 and Thursday evening (summertime only) from 18:30 - 20:00.
These days and times may vary, so please check on our Facebook page to always be up-to-date with our schedule or email the membership secretary if you plan to visit.
Support us
Our amazing partners are as much a part of the team as our members, and if you’re interested in supporting us without boarding the boat, then we welcome you to get in touch and let us know how you’d like to support.
