The week commencing May 6th was a busy, busy week for BWD.

Monday, May 6th, saw volunteers down at the Sea Cadets site at Iford Playing Fields cutting down the brambles, clearing back the foliage, sweeping the floor, tidying the shed, etc., ready for the 5th Anniversary ceremony, which would take place on Sunday 12th. Chores were all completed just before the rain set in at about noon. However, tea and cake cheered up the crew.

On Wednesday, May 8th, BWD had a stand at Bournemouth University's Fusion Building Café, joining other charity groups to promote their good works to students who, as part of their courses, would have to do meaningful voluntary work. We may well have recruited some help!

Thursday, May 9th, BWD was thrilled to give a talk to members of the Transformation Church, Sandbanks. Over 30 people attended, their enthusiasm was infectious as they practiced paddling, sitting on chairs like a makeshift Dragon Boat. They asked lots of questions and made a kind donation, showing their genuine interest and support.

Friday, May 10th, BWD manned a stand at Haskins Garden Centre to raise awareness of the organization to the general public, in the hope they would spread the word to other cancer survivors. We are immensely grateful to Haskins Garden Centre, our wonderful sponsors, who enabled BWD to purchase a new boat last year. We thank them very much and if you keep a look out on the waters of Christchurch Quay and the river Stour you might well see it!!

The busy week ended with the best celebration for BWD's 5th Anniversary on Sunday, May 12th. Unbelievably, it has been five years since four unique individuals got together and formed BWD. All founding members, as well as members past and present, crew, supporters, family and friends, were present at the celebration. The weather was lovely, and a good time was had by all: lots of cakes, sausage rolls, burgers, etc., and the tombola raised a magnificent £83.

If you would like to hear more about the Bourne Water Dragons or have the team visit for a chat, please contact the email address on this site, and we look forward to meeting you.
Well done and thank you to everyone in our community who played a part in these activities. Your involvement is what makes BWD's operations successful and meaningful.
